Nutrient Management: Now and In The Future

Presented by:
Tim Shaver • UNL Nutirent Management Specialist

In September of 2009 I joined the faculty at UNL as the Nutrient Management Specialist at the West Central Research and Extension Center in North Platte, NE. Prior to joining UNL I worked as a Research Associate for the Dryland Agroecosystems, Precision Agriculture, and Limited Irrigation projects at Colorado State University.

While working on these projects I had the opportunity to conduct research within a variety of crop rotations in dryland, limited and fully irrigated systems under conventional and no-till management. The focus of this research was on maximizing water and nutrient use efficiency and overall agronomic production under rainfed and limited irrigation systems. My current research also focuses on nutrient management for crops in water limited environments. A large component of this research is managing water and nutrient needs under climatic conditions that lead to a water deficit where evaporation potential is greater than average annual precipitation.
